The season is finally here! As Hangzhou begins its transformation into the summer city we all love, let’s take advantage of some of the better weather that Hangzhou has to offer. Here’s REDSTAR’s pick of some of the best Hangzhou bars for a delicious, ice-cold beverage outside.
When thinking of bars in Hangzhou with outdoor seating, Shangri-La’s Midtown Brewery must be mentioned. Despite having a plush interior of brick, copper piping, and large wooden tables, the outdoor area is arguably even better. Right in the heart of downtown’s Kerry Centre, this outdoor seating area is not only classy, but it is also an excellent area for having an expertly-crafted beer or cocktail while watching people walk by in the neighbouring pedestrian zone.
This seating area can be enjoyed any time of the day, but perhaps it is best enjoyed in the evening with a glass of their seasonal Lemon Ginger Saison or Nitro Red Ale (68 RMB a glass or 228 RMB a pitcher) when the nightlife of the Kerry Centre truly comes alive. Other drinks also available include cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. A live band plays most nights, plus you can enjoy plenty of hearty dishes that are great for sharing amongst a group of friends.

This sports bar and restaurant needs to become the regular hangout for those looking to watch any sporting events through the summer months. Ever since arriving in Hangzhou over two years ago, College Bar has become synonymous with sports, stable live streams, English commentary and large LCD screens on every wall.
In addition to this, the exterior walls of College Bar open-up during the warmer months. This creates a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas, allowing every patron to feel the warm spring air, not just those sitting outside. Balconies on the second and third floors overlook the foot traffic between Zhejiang University and Qingzhiwu Food Street. All of College’s food and drink offer a great ‘bang for your buck’, and if you plan on having ‘a couple’ while you soak up the atmosphere, don’t miss their Happy Hour with buy-one-get-one-free on selected drinks goes from 17:00 to 21:00.

Situated on the roof of PowerLong shopping mall, CraftBeer Buyer is the ideal spot for beer enthusiasts. With a trendy interior that plays chilled music at the perfect volume (a luxury in Hangzhou!), the outdoor seating area consists of black chairs and tables nestled between palm trees and high-rise buildings. Boasting an enormous selection of high-quality craft beers from all around the world, the staff are knowledgeable beer aficionados who provide you with background information as well as beer suited to your taste.
Although the prices can be on the steep side, CraftBeer Buyer is for anyone who considers themselves a beer lover (or for those who don’t – admittedly I’m not). Some of their recent promotions include, buy three bottled beers get one free, and before 21:00 draught beers are discounted by 10%.

Nestled in a less-traversed area of West Lake, the WL Bistro at the Four Seasons Hangzhou boasts one of the most serene patio experiences in the city. The bistro features stunning up-close views of the West Lake without the hustle and bustle of the main West Lake pathways. With the hotel’s infinity pond in the foreground and the West Lake in the background, WL Bistro patio guests can enjoy a selection of international cuisine and beverages, often with an Asian-inspired twist, like the Sichuan Mai Tai cocktail.
Do not expect to stay within the budget on this patio though, beers begin at 70 RMB, and mains begin at 138 RMB.
